Port Digital Twin – Enabling Tracking of CO₂ Emissions

Innovative solutions for sustainable port operations through the PIONEERS project.

About this demonstration

In today's rapidly evolving maritime industry, optimizing port operations and reducing carbon emissions is vital. The concept of a "Port Digital Twin" emerges as a crucial tool, offering a comprehensive view of port processes and facilitating data-driven decision-making to bolster efficiency and sustainability.

PIONEERS consortium partner IMEC aims to create a digital representation of a port, designed to help port authorities with decision-making by providing insights into CO2 emissions, logistics, and people movement developing a demo of 3 use cases that run the what-if scenario for vessel traffic, port emissions and train movement.

For more details about this demo, such as the methodology and expected outcomes, you can download the factsheet.

Demo in action

Within PIONEERS, Univers deployed its Carbon Management solution at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges to turn everyday port operations data into auditable greenhouse gas reporting. Energy consumption and on-site renewable generation feed the platform, which consolidates them into a single carbon view classified by source and scope. The demonstration collected two years of data, twice its original objective, and now reports Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions at port authority level.
